Anhinga
Anhinga anhingaPurple
Along slow rivers and swampy lakes, an anhinga slips under the surface with only its head showing, a dark snake with bright eyes and a sharpened purpose. Then the body follows, and it becomes a silent spear drifting through green water.

The animal behind the card
With a sudden thrust, it impales fish on its pointed bill, flipping the catch to swallow it headfirst in one efficient motion. After diving, it often perches with wings spread wide, drying feathers that are less waterproof than a duck’s and trading flight readiness for underwater stealth.
Seen against sunlit cypress or mangrove roots, the anhinga carries an ancient mood, half reptile silhouette, half bird. It turns patience into a hunting technique, and its wing-drying pose into an unmistakable wetland emblem.
