Overview

The animal behind the card

Even at a young age, it can move with impressive speed, darting and turning in response to shadows and sudden noises. The parents guard their brood fiercely, using size and swift kicks to deter potential threats.

Curious pecks at plants, insects and shiny stones teach the chick what is edible and what is not. As weeks pass, the African Ostrich Chick's legs lengthen further, preparing it for the high speed sprints that define adult escape strategy.
