Magnificent Frigatebird
Fregata magnificensBlue
The Magnificent Frigatebird spends so much time on the wing that it seems to belong more to the air than to the land or sea. With a huge wingspan and astonishingly light body, it can glide for hours, barely moving its long, narrow wings.

The animal behind the card
Males are instantly recognizable when they inflate their bright red throat pouches into dramatic balloons during courtship displays. These sky pirates often steal fish from other seabirds in mid air, twisting and diving with startling agility.
Yet they cannot land on water, since their feathers are not built for swimming, so every flight must be carefully judged. High above ocean currents, the Magnificent Frigatebird rides invisible rivers of air, turning mere wind into a permanent roadway.
