Puma Cub
Puma concolorGreen
A puma cub begins life hidden in a sheltered den, dependent on its mother for warmth, milk, and protection. Its spotted coat looks unlike the plain tawny fur of an adult puma; those markings help break up its outline among grass, stones, and scrub.

The animal behind the card
As it grows, the cub follows its mother through open country and learns to read tracks, wait in cover, and make short, sudden pounces. Play with littermates helps develop balance and coordination, but real hunting takes much longer to master.
The spots gradually fade while the young cat gains strength and independence. Until then, the vast Patagonian landscape is both a training ground and a place where staying close to its mother can make all the difference.
