The animal behind the card
Male cicadas produce an intense song with vibrating organs called tymbals. Warm Mediterranean days can fill with their chorus as males advertise to females from trees and shrubs.
Adults and nymphs feed on plant fluids without chewing leaves. Their abandoned skins remain attached to bark, while their emergence provides a seasonal feast for birds, reptiles, and small mammals.
