European Rabbit
Oryctolagus cuniculusRed
At the edge of fields and grassy clearings, the European Rabbit keeps close to cover, ears turning constantly while it grazes in quick, nervous bites. Its compact body is built for sudden bursts: a flash of hind legs, a zigzag sprint, then silence at the mouth of a burrow.

The animal behind the card
Life is centered on the warren, a shared network of tunnels where groups shelter, raise young and vanish when danger crosses the open ground. Above the surface, sentries thump the soil with their hind feet to warn the colony.
Those same burrows can reshape whole patches of meadow, mixing soil and trimming vegetation. Small and familiar, the European Rabbit is still an ecosystem engineer with a talent for surviving between exposure and refuge.
Bestiary facts
A rabbit warren can be used for generations, growing into a true underground neighborhood of tunnels and chambers.
