Komodo Dragon
Varanus komodoensisBlue
The Komodo Dragon is the largest living lizard, built like a low, armored predator with heavy limbs, a muscular tail, and a long forked tongue that constantly samples the air. It lives on a small set of Indonesian islands where dry savanna, monsoon woodland, and rugged coastal slopes create a harsh landscape for a reptile of such size.

The animal behind the card
It hunts deer, wild pigs, smaller reptiles, and carrion, often relying on patience rather than speed until the final rush. Its sense of smell is so refined that it can detect carrion over long distances, and young dragons spend more time in trees to avoid being eaten by larger adults.
Because the species is restricted to a narrow island range, it is vulnerable to habitat change, prey decline, fire, and human pressure. The Komodo Dragon represents an evolutionary giant that survived in isolation, and its continued future depends on keeping those island ecosystems intact and well protected.
Bestiary facts
