Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
Thunnus thynnusRed
The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna is built for relentless motion, crossing entire ocean basins with a body shaped like a living torpedo. Dense muscle, powerful tail strokes, and remarkable control of body temperature let it chase prey through cold and warm waters alike.

The animal behind the card
It hunts schools of fish and squid with speed rather than stealth, often driving bait into tight formations before striking. Young tuna may travel in large groups, while older fish become some of the most formidable open-water predators in the Atlantic food web.
Because it matures slowly and has long been targeted by major commercial fisheries, the species became a symbol of how quickly abundance can be pushed toward collapse. Better management has improved some populations, but the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna still depends on careful international protection across migration routes and spawning grounds.
