Golden Eagle Chick
Aquila chrysaetosYellow
In a high cliff nest, a golden eagle chick begins life covered in pale down, relying completely on its parents for warmth and food. During the first weeks, its eyesight sharpens quickly and its calls grow stronger as it starts reacting to wind, shadows, and movement around the eyrie.

The animal behind the card
As feathers replace down, it trains constantly: wing-stretching, balancing on uneven sticks, and short hopping drills along the nest rim. These repeated exercises build the coordination and muscle needed for first flight, while adults bring prey and gradually encourage longer, bolder movements.
Golden eagle chicks are highly sensitive to disturbance near nesting cliffs, especially during early growth and fledging. Protecting quiet breeding territories and healthy mountain prey populations is essential if young birds are to survive to adulthood.
Bestiary facts
Golden eagle chicks hatch several days apart, giving the older chick an advantage when food is scarce.
