Roe Deer
Capreolus capreolusYellow
The Roe Deer appears at dawn and dusk like a woodland flicker, light-footed and alert as it browses young shoots, leaves, and buds along forest margins. Even in open fields, it rarely stays still for long, pausing often to test wind and sound.

The animal behind the card
Males grow short antlers that are shed and regrown each year, while females guide fawns through tall cover where camouflage and stillness are the first defenses. When startled, roe deer bound away in springy leaps that seem to float over undergrowth.
Because they use both woodland and farmland mosaics, they adapt well where habitat remains connected. Their presence marks a landscape that still offers edge zones, seasonal forage, and enough quiet cover to raise young successfully.
Bestiary facts
Roe deer hide fawns separately, spreading risk instead of gathering every spotted newborn in one place.
