Lowland Streaked Tenrec
Hemicentetes semispinosusYellow

The animal behind the card
Unlike many spiny mammals, this tiny creature can produce faint sounds by rubbing certain quills together, a form of communication known as stridulation. The noise is subtle, more felt than clearly heard, but it may help family members keep track of one another.
When threatened, the tenrec arches its back, presenting a forest of sharp defenses to any would be predator. It is a reminder that some of the planet’s strangest and most inventive designs are reserved for its smallest inhabitants.
