Overview
The animal behind the card
On riverbanks or coastal kelp beds, adults groom the pup relentlessly, teaching it how to maintain that insulating coat. Playful nips and mock chases in shallow water gradually build the paddling strength it will need for diving.
Curiosity about stones, shells and moving shadows hints at the future tool use and hunting skills of the adult. Within the circle of family, the Otter Pup learns that the water's surface can be home as well as highway.
